Bourgeois Enterprises, a public relations consulting firm, was
founded in the year 2000 by George Michael “Mike”
Bourgeois as a part-time endeavor in anticipation of his retirement
from his Public Affairs Director position with the Louisiana Department
of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) in 2004. Bourgeois
diversified the business to include publishing in 2005.
Since retiring from state government, Bourgeois has operated the
organization full-time and has written and published an award
winning pre-teen book to help food banks procure more fresh grown
produce. “Patricke Peartree: A Modern-Day Johnny Appleseed,”
the SPRF award winning book, encourages individuals and organizations
to create edible landscaped yards and properties with donation
orchards and gardens and give all or a portion of their harvests
to food banks.
Bourgeois also organized and co-edited “It’s What
we do Together That Counts,” the inspirational autobiography
of Earl Heard, founder of the Business and Industry Connection
(BIC), BIC magazine, a leading 25 year old industrial publication
with national circulation, and the regionally distributed Leisure
Connection magazine.
In addition to the Business and Industry Connection, other clients
have included the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge, Blue Flash
Express, LLC, a trucking firm, Venco, a start-up steel fabrication
company, and Maxiflex, a medical equipment manufacturer.
In addition to his position at LADOTD, Bourgeois also served as
Public Information Director for the United Way in Baton Rouge
and in New Orleans and for the Louisiana Department of Economic
Development. He also served as Public Relations and Business Development
Officer for a bank.
Bourgeois has garnered a number of writing and public relations
awards for innovativeness and creativity over the course of his
career, has been a volunteer with numerous organizations and is
a graduate of the LSU Manship School of Mass Communications. His
book, award winning “Patricke Peartree: A Modern-Day Johnny
Appleseed", was also nominated for a 2006 IPPY Award by the
Independent Publisher Book Awards program.
The
in the
Bourgeois Enterprises logo is actually the registered cattle brand
Bourgeois has maintained since childhood. It is called the Rocking
Seven W Seven brand. Enterprising and innovative early on, Bourgeois
picked cotton on his grandfather’s farm and cattle ranch
in the summertime during his elementary school years. Realizing
that cattle would multiply more than the money he would be paid
for picking cotton, Bourgeois accepted his grandfather’s
offer of an option to be paid in cash or a calf and opted for
the calf. As a result, Bourgeois was able to pay for a used car
and a portion of his college education by selling the cattle he
raised with his grandfather. Since corporate branding is a part
of his consulting business, Bourgeois decided to incorporate the
cattle brand into his company logo.
